About the Author


Salomey Doku, also known as 'Salomey Draws', is a self-taught freelance fairytale loving author-illustrator, and ever creating storyteller from Leeds, England.

Originally trained in architecture, in which she worked for over 3 years, she started watercolour painting in 2018 and quickly fell in love with the art of storytelling. An ardent lover kids books and bubble tea, she is inspired by her diverse community, the natural world, and all things bright and beautiful.

On the rare (very rare) occasions when she is not drawing, writing, or daydreaming, she can usually be found tucked up in a corner reading, going on long walks around Yorkshire, jetting off on international city breaks, at church, or talking to her pet hedgehog Strawberry.

Salomey judged the Queen's Knicker's Picture Book Award for 2024, and as an alumni of Nottingham Trent University, participates as a guest on panels, in workshops, and runs portfolio reviews as part of their Creative Futures events. Her debut graphic novel, "Brielle & Bear: Once Upon a Time..." was shortlisted for the 2025 INDIE BOOK AWARDS.
